Thank you so much to everyone who came to the reading tonight! So many buttons were made, screen printing turned out really well (Thanks Natalie & Clara), about seventy people came to the reading, we had a live performance from the artist Suicide, great performances from all our poets, and we almost sold out of books! If you couldn't make it be sure to get your copy of pufferfish magazine from our shopify (it will be available soon) at: http://neutralzone.myshopify.com/ Also for those who didn't get information on how to download the audio submissions, they are available on soundcloud whose link you can access here (Suicide's song Pray will be available soon but is not currently posted) In addition: Keep paying attention to our feed because I'll be hitting you up with more interviews soon from those who didn't get posted before the reading! ![]() Great reading! Thank you to Dea Chapell, Kyndall Flowers, Lily Kujawski, and the alien in the corner for reading their pieces tonight. Also thank you to Violet Seeburger, Dylan Gilbert, and Ricky McLilly for performing for us (though they are not pictured above). Finally, thank you for all the other artists who made it out tonight: Eleanor Olson, Yuchen Yang, Ezra Kushmaul, and any others who I didn't have a chance to speak with! You all made this happen!

Four whole new interviews are now available for viewing as we head into the home stretch before tomorrows reading! Check out interviews with Yuchen Yang, a sophomore at pioneer, Caroline Cerilli, a sophomore at Huron, Annie Else, a junior at Pioneer, and Violet Seeburger a freshman somewhere!
(I have since found out that Violet attends Community High School). We unfortunately only have access to two photos for this post, (we have since discovered more), however if you are really dying to meet Yuchen or Violet, creators of Teens Deserve More Sleep and Untitled, respectively, come drop by the reading tomorrow where their actual faces will be present! (Links in pictures below) For more information on this event, if you have not heard about it yet, click here. -Visit the Interviews to see new interviews with Liam Knight, author of Sonder and Dhiya Nadira, author of A Letter From A Girl From The Other Side. These were two of the first interviews I conducted but those that had the most follow-up questions.
-Dhiya is an Exchange student from Indonesia and is a part of YES. She currently is living with a host family here in Ann Arbor with whom she feels very comfortable and attends classes at Pioneer High School. She is also a part of the Pioneer Theatre Guild. -Liam Knight is a senior at Community High School. He will be attending The U of M next year as a Freshman (Links in below images) The series continues! Check the website for new interviews with Maya Burris, the author of This is Agoraphobia from Pioneer High School and Jane-Marie Anderson, author of Why I Hate Bananas from Huron High! (Links below)
It is time!!! The first two author's interviews are now available for viewing! If you have questions for the authors which were not included in the interview, or comments about their answers, feel free to comment! For more interviews stay tuned in and you will not be disappointed...
-Genera Fields is a Senior at Pioneer High School and is planning to take a gap year after graduation to live in Chicago -Ezra Kushmaul is a Junior at Pioneer and has lived in Ann Arbor for two years. They are a poet and playwright who is thinking of studying English at college. Authors, fans, family, and friends of authors: "shondrea and i talked about how language is your power. some days, admittedly, i zone out. in my town, bahasa malayu gushes in fast rivers out the mouths of every neighbor, 7-11 cashier, fruit stall owner, teacher, friend. around me, language lives -- takes a breath, picks its nose. and when i fall out of the language train and do not understand, i feel like i get squeezed to tight quarters, constricted and lonely and sad. but i have to believe that i'm being made better for it: stronger, sturdier, questioning so much about my own history of being raised in a bilingual world, while putting in the work/wait to learn this new language." -Excerpt from the blog of former Red Beard Supervisor and Co-author of Electric Bite Woman, Carlina Duan (see more) Authors, artists, and musicians who will be featured in the First Edition of Pufferfish Magazine and supporters of those artists:
while reviewing the pufferfish event date, April 30th (mark your calendars!), we realized that not only is the release date both the Friday before AP testing begins, it is also the same night as the U of M's graduation ceremony. The humanity! Therefore, we have decided to begin PR now! Please try to find a way to make it to our event even though parking will be pretty much non-existent! There will be a lot of fresh and upcoming authors reading that night and for many it could be their first performance in front of an audience. It would, I am certain, mean the world to your friends and peers that you make it out to support them and their art! It would be great to have a healthy turn-out for this event. Take the bus! Walk! Ride a giant toad! Dogs welcome! (I actually do not have the authority to say that but maybe!) Humans definitely welcome! Aliens too! Please share this post or tell your friends and teachers about this event and help us overcome the wrath of the UM Senior Class of 2016. Our design team has been hard at work this week, surgically placing the organs of this first edition magazine! Make sure to stay tuned, many updates to come as we approach the release for Pufferfish! Here are some sneak peaks into the works!
Red Beard fans and new viewers! This week, as our design team works tirelessly to get together the works of Ann Arbor's Youth Poets and Artists, the PR side of Red Beard is working to update our websites. As some of you may have noticed, we now have a page devoted to several of our past releases (more soon to be listed) and you can read more about them. Though it is not yet complete make sure to check it out and keep an eye on our other websites! We'll be updating them soon!
